Back2Basickz - November Newsletter 2024

NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

Amanda Coombs, Executive Director, Back2Basickz Youth Support Services

Dear Community,

This November has been a very busy month for us at Back 2 Basickz.

We pause this Remembrance Day to honour the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Their courage reminds us of the immense cost of conflict and the enduring need to pursue peace. As we remember their dedication, we also reflect on the challenges of our present world, where violence and war still leave too many in pain and uncertainty.

Let us honour their legacy not just with words, but through our actions—by working towards unity, understanding, and peace. In a time when global conflicts continue to fracture communities, we must strive to be the change our world so desperately needs.

November 25th also starts the ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence’ which commences with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Back 2 Basickz will be creating awareness during this time to stand against gender-based violence. These sixteen days will serve as a call to action to support survivors, challenge harmful norms, and work towards a world where everyone can live without fear. Together, let’s raise awareness, educate, and advocate for change.

Keep an eye out for our social media topics and discussions from Nov 25th - Dec 10th or search by the tag #16days.

Monthly highlights

A heartfelt thank you and bittersweet send off to the founder of the BYOU project Stachen Frederick who will be greatly missed.

Stachen has been instrumental to the success of the project and has been an amazing mentor and positive role model to all the BYOU partners.

We wish Stachen all the best in this next chapter of her career as President and CEO of Big Brothers Toronto.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Serviceberry at Toronto Foundation for their generous donation!

This enabled us to keep our doors open for another month while we await new funding for our Gaming Youth Program.

Thanks to this support, our youth had the chance to visit Fire Station 142 on October 26, where they learned about the various equipment on fire trucks, career opportunities, and the heavy gear firefighters carry.
