Back2Basickz - March Newsletter 2026

![]() Amanda Coombs, Executive Director, Back2Basickz Youth Support Services | Dear Back 2 Basickz Family, As the winter thaw begins and the days slowly grow longer, March reminds us that change is happening, even when we cannot always see it right away. The transition into spring is a season of renewal, growth, and fresh opportunity. At Back 2 Basickz, we see that same transition happening in our youth and throughout our community. Seeds planted over the winter months through workshops, mentorship, connection, and hard work are beginning to bloom. Growth takes time, patience, and care, and we are proud of the resilience and dedication our young people continue to show. As we step into this new season, expect more great things. More opportunities. More learning. More impact. More community. Spring is on the horizon, and so is continued growth for us all. With gratitude, ![]() Amanda Coombs Executive Director Back 2 basickz |

In the heart of the Jane and Finch community, Steven Salguero, known as @emceeheavy, is turning storytelling into transformation.
An artist, actor, public speaker, and epilepsy awareness spokesperson, Steven is the driving force behind STAGED IMPACT; a powerful initiative using theatre as a tool for healing and empowerment. Through this program, he works directly with youth, teaching the foundations of script writing, directing, and acting. But this is more than just performance training.
STAGED IMPACT creates space for young people to bring their real-life experiences to the stage; their issues, trauma, struggles, and wins. It gives them the opportunity to tell their stories authentically, in their own voices, and to see those stories come alive in a meaningful way.

What makes this initiative even more impactful is its intentional focus on mental wellness. The program includes mental health-trained therapists who support youth throughout the creative process. As participants unpack heavy experiences and turn them into art, they are supported in a safe environment that promotes healing, reflection, and growth.
Steven Salguero isn’t just teaching theatre -- he is cultivating confidence, resilience, and self-expression. Through STAGED IMPACT, he is helping youth reclaim their narratives and transform pain into purpose, one stage at a time
This program is being a collaboration between New Life Church Community Ministries, One Heavy Dream & Back 2 Basickz.
