Back2Basickz - February Newsletter 2026

FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

Amanda Coombs, Executive Director, Back2Basickz Youth Support Services

Dear Back 2 Basickz Family,

February is a time of reflection, learning, and reaffirming our commitment to community as we honour Black History Month. It is a moment to recognize the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black people past and present, while also acknowledging that our history is not just something to remember for one month, but something that continues to shape our lives, our communities, and our work every day.

At Back 2 Basickz, Black history and Black futures are deeply connected to our mission. The values that have carried our communities forward, resilience, collective care, creativity, leadership, and perseverance, are the same values we strive to instill in the young people we serve. Our programs are rooted in the belief that when youth feel seen, supported, and empowered, they are better equipped to navigate challenges and build meaningful paths forward.

This month, we are especially mindful of the responsibility we have to create safe, affirming spaces where youth can explore their identities, speak their truth, and grow with confidence. We recognize that the systems our youth move through have not always been built with them in mind, which is why community-based support, mentorship, and culturally responsive programming remain at the heart of our work.

As we honour Black History Month, we also look toward the future. We are committed to uplifting the next generation of leaders, artists, advocates, and change-makers by providing opportunities that support their mental health, creativity, education, and overall well-being.

Thank you to our youth, families, partners, and supporters who continue to walk alongside us. Your trust and collaboration make this work possible. Together, we are not only honouring history, we are building legacy.

With gratitude,

Amanda Coombs

Executive Director
