Each of you plays a vital role in helping us create safe spaces, opportunities for growth, and experiences that empower our young people to thrive. This year has been filled with inspiring moments; new programs, strengthened partnerships, and youth stepping boldly into leadership, creativity, and self-discovery. Together, we continue to build a community rooted in care, connection, and possibility. As the holiday season approaches, I hope you find time to rest, restore, and celebrate with the people who matter most. May your holidays be filled with peace, joy, and warmth. Thank you for being part of the Back 2 Basickz family. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season—and as always we look forward to seeing you in 2026. Monthly highlights
In November, our executive director Amanda had the honour of being a part of the Mental health, racism and public safety forum where she spoke on topics of depression, anxiety and substance use. As always we are always grateful to have these opportunities to help the community but also to represent and spread the word about Back 2 Basickz and the important work we do. | ![]() |

Finch Youth Shout Out This month, we’re proud to recognize Nyrek. Nyrek is known for his patience, humbleness, kindness and supportive nature. Supporting Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
In light of the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, Back 2 Basickz is stepping up to support families in need. We are collecting donations to fill two relief barrel - one at our Finch location and one at our Scarborough location.
Donations can be dropped off during the dates and times listed on the flyers, or you can contact us directly to arrange a pickup.
Suggested Donation Items:
Non-perishable food (canned goods, rice, pasta, cereal)
Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products)
Baby items (diapers, wipes, formula)
Cleaning supplies
First aid items
New or lightly used clothing & shoes
Small household essentials (flashlights, batteries, towels)

Intergenerational Seniors Program This youth led program engages seniors through music, games and wellness activities. Participants will focus on intergenerational learning, skill sharing and building more interconnected communities. With a spotlight on movement and acting, develop your confidence and stage presence. If you are an aspiring performer, this workshop is for you so sign up today. |

Mental Health Training This 2 day training workshop provides mental health training and explores topics like mood disorders, substance use, coping mechanisms and much more. All participants must attend both training days to complete their certification, valid for 3 years. Facilitated by Amanda Coombs, this training will take place at McGregor Park Community Centre on Saturday and Sunday from 9:30am - 5:00pm. Hair Braiding Workshop This interactive workshop will be taught by Youth Facilitator Priscal where she will show you how to do different protective styles. Back 2 Basickz WE RISE PROGRAM Back 2 Basickz presents WE RISE PROGRAM: A holistic mental health and wellness program designed to empower youth through connection, creativity, and self-discovery. These weekly sessions blend interactive workshops, discussions, and art-based therapeutic activities that support emotional well-being and personal growth. Youth will gain practical tools to manage emotions, explore culturally relevant approaches to mental health, and connect with peers in a safe and supportive environment. Back2Basickz Black Youth Wellness Retreat YMCA Cedar Glen Outdoor Centre We’re inviting Black youth to a powerful 2-day overnight retreat designed for rest, healing, connection, and real conversations. If you’ve experienced trauma or violence both directly or indirectly this is a safe space to unpack, unwind, talk, heal, and just breathe. Expect a mix of healing-centered sessions and fun downtime activities like sledding, games, a movie night, and s’mores; all FREE, including travel, food, and activities. Through She Belongs, alumni share their experiences navigating education, career paths, and life challenges, providing real-life guidance, inspiration, and mentorship. Your journey can empower young women to see what is possible, encourage them to pursue their dreams, and show them that their voices and goals matter. If you are interested in giving back and making a meaningful impact in your community, we would love to hear from you. Sessions are flexible and can be tailored to your availability.
